The Inn & Tavern

A short cobble stone path leads you to the twin, oaken doors that are held in place by thick iron hinges. The heavy doors open into the common area. A wide variety of ales and spirits are offered, and bring bring to life the creatures in the tavern and conversations buzz. It is a busy place at times, other times it is a quiet retreat. A gathering place where the misfortunes, loves and stories of many are written.

Several tables are fit with chairs are situated in the main room to keep good company among people so that no one should have to sit alone. The lounge area is equipped with comfortable couches and often times a musically inclined (or not so) bard will perform. The ceiling is high, supported by a single beam at the room's center. Rafters branch from the main post like the many legs of a spider to make up the seating area high above, which attract our shy creatures.

A hearth provides ample heat for the large room. The stone-built fireplace is circled with a thick wooden mantle. The fire pit in the kitchen is ever in use as a place to heat kettles and pots. There are no windows on either wall that holds the hearth, but a few on the frontage wall.

The bar, made of teak, was recovered from the original tavern. It has some minor fire damage, but is polished on a regular basis. The bar is L shaped, open on one end (your right). Several tall stools are positioned against it, so that people may sit and have some idle chatter with the barkeep or keep to themselves. Behind the bar, there are counters and shelves filled with bottles in every variety and age, some full, some not so full.

Zeb is the resident barkeep. An old warrior who learned his tending in a great number of taverns and the like throughout the known world through a career of soldiering. Loud, obscene and utterly unable to sing any way but off-key. Zeb is an easy ear with a quick smile. He's gnarled, wrinkled, gray and still powerful. While his days as a professional soldier are behind him, he seems to not regret leaving it as he throws himself into his work with a wide grin and hearty laughter. It is rumored that Zeb and the Inn’s cook are a bit of an item. A rumor both deny with fervor.

Behind the bar is a closed door that leads to a kitchen. The kitchen staff belongs here and few others. There is a door to the grounds from this room; however, and some do sneak through here to go out or come in. Watch out for Camilla, the cook. This woman is both charming and frightening. Adding a zest of spice to the tavern, the rotund old widow is armed with both an ever-ready smile and a temper as bright as the red hair upon her head once was.

A stairway drops into the room in the back corner, near the washrooms. Rooms for rent, be it long or short term, are at the top of these stairs. This is the only entrance to the inn portion of without having to enter from the outside of the buildings.
